We came to Providence Hospital in Everett last Tuesday afternoon, and Elianna was born at 6:15am the following Wednesday morning.

I’ve shared a couple of her first photos above.

It was quite a process, waiting for Elliana to join us, and we went over 36 hours without sleep.

Kinda reminded me of the days when I used to work long hours as an Alaska Fisherman.

In the last hour, prior to Elliana being born, she had difficulty with her heart rate decelerating.

As soon as she joined us, the nurses placed her on oxygen for a few minutes.

As the morning went on, the doctors noticed her muscle tone was weak, so they ran some blood cultures.

This testing revealed that Elliana had elevated blood counts, which indicate infection.

Left untreated, this infection could be life-threatening.

Our only option was to transfer to the pediatrics unit where they could treat the potential infection, which meant a week-long stay here at the hospital.

As you can imagine, none of us were too excited about the thought of spending a week at the hospital.

Especially my wife Lisa.

All she wanted to do was take our baby and go home.

The good news is that Elliana is progressing well, and she’s a beautiful baby girl, as you can see in the photos.

Fortunately, we have plenty of family to help out.

Lisa’s parents have been staying at our home, along with Jerry, Kaitlynn and Brock.

I’ve had to postpone a couple of Lifestyle-Business Blueprint training calls, and reschedule a few consults.

But come Wednesday, we should be leaving the hospital, and taking Elliana home for the first time.

This whole experience has caused me to give a lot of thought, and be extremely thankful for all the good things in m life.

Thankful for my wonderful wife and family.

Thankful that I have a business that fits perfectly into the lifestyle I’ve chosen to live.

Thankful that my family’s income is not affected by such circumstances.

Thankful for all the friends who have been sending well wishes since they discovered what happened.

How many professionals, entrepreneurs or business owners are able to express this much passion about what they’re doing?

Make no doubt about it, the number is small.

P.S. We’re still waiting on baby Elli to arrive, and you can be sure I’ll be introducing you to her as soon as I can.

Our household is on Cloud 9 today as we anticipate the birth of Elliana Marie Thompson.

Lisa’s due date is this Sunday – March 21st.

But…

She’s going in for a pregnancy massage today.

And that sheds a whole new light on things.

When the massage lady called yesterday to confirm the appointment, she asks Lisa, if she was ready to have the baby.

She then goes on to say, “You might want to have someone else drive you here for your appointment because it’s possible that we could induce labor”.

As you can imagine, it’s an exciting time around here.

And needless to say, I’ve got to remain extremely flexible with my schedule.

If Elliana comes calling, I’ll be running – to the hospital that is.

I want to thank all of you who have already sent well wishes for Lisa and the baby.

Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter, was all about passion.

Yesterday I shared a photo was taken from the rear view mirror of my vehicle last July, as I was heading out to the lake for the day.

Considering where I was, it surprised me that I would see something like this.

My first thought was, “I wonder where they’re going”.

Within a few minutes, my question was answered.

About a mile or so down the road, I discover that somebody was having a summertime party.

But, as you can see, this definitely wasn’t your normal party.

There were hundreds of hot rods that had come together for this one, and at the time I took these photos, more and more of them continued to pour in.

Now keep in mind, the location of this home was a long way off the beaten path.

Yet the individual who lives here was able to organize this party.

I don’t care how you look at it – they did some incredible marketing in order to make an event like this happen.

Though I can assure you, the time and effort they put into making this event happen, didn’t feel like work at all.

Why?

Because they love what they’re doing.

They’re obviously into hot rods, and spending time with other people who own hot rods.

And let me tell you, if the person who lives in this home can pull off an event like this…

Just imagine what they’d be able to accomplish when they took their passion to the airwaves of the internet.

They’d make a fortune, and have a ton of fun in the process.

Here’s a photo that brings back a great memory from last summer.

I don’t know about you, but I love summertime, and am glad that winter is almost behind us.

Now that we’re into the month of March, the beautiful warm days of summer are just around the corner.

This photo was taken last July, as I was heading out to the lake for the day.

Now keep in mind, this was a back woods country road that I was traveling on.

So you can imagine my surprise when I see this in my rear view mirror.

My first thought was, “I wonder where they’re going”.

Within a few minutes, my question was answered.

I’ll be back tomorrow with two more photos that reveal the answer.

Oh…

And just in case you’re wondering, yes – there’s a great marketing and business lesson in this little exercise.

And it’s a biggie.

Last Monday night at 10:01pm, my flight arrived at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

I’d taken a short 2-day trip to Los Angeles so I could get together with my good friend Sean Stephenson and his dad Greg (Sean’s the one in the wheelchair above).

I went on this trip for a specific purpose, yet I came home with far more than I ever expected.

While in LA, Sean introduced me to a few of his friends, and let me tell you, he’s got some INCREDIBLE friends.

On Sunday morning, we went to the Santa Monica Farmers Market for some great food.

And that’s where we met up with Sean’s friends.

We spent the better part of the day relaxing in the sun, eating great food and having some incredible conversations.

Talk about an experience.

As I was on my flight home, I couldn’t help but think of a goal that I’d written down several years earlier.

That goal was – to spend quality time with inspirational people on a regular basis.

And today, I’ve FAR exceeded that goal.

Not only do I spend quality time with inspirational people on a regular basis – I get compensated for doing so.

And the interesting thing is, I do it without effort.

If you joined us for the recent Lifestyle-Business Blueprint event, you heard me talk about this.

I’ve designed my entire life this way.

I’ve designed my entire life so that my business and my personal life are integrated.

As a result, my business is a natural extension of the person I am, and the way I see myself interacting with other people.

Thanks for the email, and the compliments.

You’re right, I’m definitely driven to help others, and trust that you’ll find my answer to your question instructive.

I remember being at a seminar years ago when I heard one of the presenters say, “Every time you say yes to one thing, you’re saying no to something else”.

This comment had a profound impact on the way I viewed my business from that point forward.

You see, when most entrepreneurs start their first business, they’re on Cloud 9 – excited about the vision they have for their new business.

But within a short time (usually 6-12 months), they find that their business has become about a whole lot more than just doing that thing that originally had them excited.

At this point, they tend to get pretty disappointed, but will continue to do the work anyways.

Before they realize it, they start adding – and adding – and adding to the list of things they now have to do in order to make their business grow.

They now find themselves working more hours than they never imagined, and the overwhelming majority of their time is spent doing things that they don’t even enjoy.

Long story short – they’re miserable, and they don’t see any way out.

And let me tell you, when you’re a miserable business owner, there ain’t NO hiding it.

You end up sabotaging your own business, because your potential customers can sense that something is wrong, and they shy away from you.

They can’t quite put their finger on what the problem is, but they find themselves being repelled, and in the end, they choose not to do business with you.

To prevent this from happening in my own business, I long ago decided what I would do… and what I would NOT do in my business.

The fact is, I wanted to attract the kind of people who felt like they had a connection with me, and believed that what I had to offer was a right fit for them.

To accomplish this, I knew that I had to focus my effort on doing ONLY the things in my business that I enjoyed most.

That also meant that I’d have to be very deliberate about what I would NOT do.

As my business grew, I wanted to enjoy the process.

I wanted my business to be a natural extension of the person I am.

I wanted my business to perfectly fit in with the kind of lifestyle I wanted to live.

By structuring my business this way, people can see that I’m extremely passionate about what I do, and the impact I’m having in this world.

As a result, (assuming they’re a right fit) they naturally want to be a part of what I have to offer.

They’re naturally attracted to me.

And yes… I’ll admit, running my business like this doesn’t allow me to have personal one-on-one contact with everyone who happens to find out about me.

But thanks to technology, I can get the relationship started.

I can open the lines of communication, just as we’re doing right now.

Then…
