For as stories, my 9 year old has to read and make brief summaries four nights a week as part of his home work. He has an good grasp on what he reads but in writting it up he assumes every reader has read the same story also. At this point I ask him guided questions to help fill in the missing peices and convey the message and the main points of the story in an more complete and captivating way. I'm assuming your course does the same thing for grown ups. It’s amazing to see someone like this guy that has changed the the world so many times in my lifetime.
